Assignment #3: Digital Audio

Prediger RAW
00:00 / 04:09
Prediger EDITED 1 1
00:00 / 02:12

For this assignment, I chose to use GarageBand to edit my audio, as it is an application that I am familiar with and was already loaded onto my Macbook. I chose one of my favourite middle years novels and decided to do a "First Chapter Friday" mini-podcast. The idea of the podcast is for kids/students to listen to a short reading of an excerpt of a first chapter of a novel and be left wanting to read the entire book at the end. I began this assignment by recording my raw audio using my iPhone and AirPods Pro. I then uploaded that audio into GarageBand. This allowed me to split my sound, as well as trim any unwanted any parts out of the audio. My "raw" version is a lot longer, as I wasn't sure what part of the chapter would be a natural place to end the book "tasting", so I listened to it back and trimmed it from there. I found royalty-free music to use as an intro/outro to my podcast, as well as to transitions to different segments of the podcast. I also utilized the "fade" tool, to allow my audio to flow more naturally together. I also had to adjust the volume of my clips, as the music was a lot louder than my voice. Finally, I uploaded the clip into my "Music" application on my Macbook, where I converted it into an MP3 file.
